GRAMMAR: Prepositions of Place 

On = something located on a coast, a river, a flat surface:
London is on the Thames. That is my bag on the table.

In = something located inside a larger area or space:
The book is in the drawer. There was an earthquake in Mexico.

By = something next to another thing
The hotel is by the park. We walked by the river.

 

VOCABULARY – Travel

Trip (noun) = a visit to a place and a return.
We took a trip to Algeria last year.

Journey (noun) = normally overland and a long distance.
England to Australia is a long journey.

Travel (verb) = to visit more than one place
She travels around America on business
