GRAMMAR: Past Simple Negative
FORM: The Past Simple – used to describe events that finished in the past.
The Past Simple Negative uses the past of the auxiliary verb ‘do’.
e.g. I did not use my phone yesterday / she did not attend the meeting.
The verb to be / be able to (can) do not use the auxiliary verb ‘do’.
e.g. I was not in the London office last week because I could not travel.
EXPRESSIONS – Company Performance
Learn these expressions in the Past Simple:
Fall = to go down – Profits fell to zero last year.
Rise = to go up – Sales rose by 33%.
Fluctuate = go up and down a lot – Company performance fluctuated a lot last month.
Stabilise = become calm and steady – The price of oil stabilised after a lot of fluctuations.
